Whether you work with individuals, couples, families, adults or children, Patricia Papernow  will give you clear insight in what works and what doesn’t to help stepfamily members meet their challenges. You’ll learn about her clinical framework that integrates a wide variety of therapeutic modalities: psychoeducational, interpersonal and intrapsychic/family-of-origin. 

Patricia Papernow will tell you:

• why stepfamilies are different and that they come in many forms
• about the five challenges stepfamilies face in their day-to-day life
• about the challenges the therapist faces in working with stepfamilies (“easy wrong turns”)

You’ll leave with a clear map of the stepfamily territory, a full box of practical tools for sowing realistic hope, softening conflict, and forging connection, as well as a boat load of great handouts.

Bio

Dr. Patricia L. Papernow is widely recognized as one of the world’s foremost experts on stepfamilies. She is in her fourth decade of working with, learning about, and teaching others about stepfamily relationships. 

Dr. Papernow is the Director of the Institute for Stepfamily Education and a psychologist in private practice in Hudson, MA (USA). She divides her time between clinical practice, supervision, and training. And she is the author of Surviving and Thriving in Stepfamily Relationships: What works and what doesn’t” (Routledge, 2013). Dr. Papernow is the 2017 recipient of the Award for Distinguished Contribution to Family Psychology from the American Psychological Association’s Couple and Family Therapy Division.

Of je nu met individuen, koppels, gezinnen, volwassenen of kinderen werkt: deze studiedag geeft je degelijke en praktische richtlijnen over wat werkt en wat niet als je (leden van) een samengesteld gezin probeert te helpen. Gastspreker is de Amerikaanse psychotherapeute Patricia Papernow, een wereldautoriteit in het werken met samengestelde gezinnen.

Je krijgt een uitgebreide toelichting bij het theoretisch en klinisch werkkader van Patricia Papernow:

• je leert zien waarom samengestelde gezinnen fundamenteel anders zijn (bv. vergeleken met kerngezinnen, adoptiegezinnen,...)
• je leert begrijpen welke uitdagingen eigen zijn aan deze gezinsvorm
• je ontdekt welke de typische valkuilen zijn in het werken met samengestelde gezinnen
• je ontwikkelt praktijkvaardigheden op drie niveau's: psycho-educatie, interpersoonlijk en intrapsychisch

Er is ruimte voor reflectie, je krijgt concrete demonstraties van technieken en is ruimte voor vragen of discussie. Je gaat naar huis met een bruikbaar kompas om te werken met samengestelde gezinnen (toolbox en handouts inbegrepen). 

Bio

Dr. Patricia L. Papernow is een van de meest invloedrijke inspiratoren ter wereld in het klinisch werken met samengestelde gezinnen. Papernow is klinisch psycholoog met ruim veertig jaar klinische ervaring. Daarnaast is zij opleider en supervisor. Ze is de directrice van het Institute for Stepfamily Education en heeft een eigen praktijk in Hudson (Massachusetts) in de Verenigde Staten.

Ze is de auteur van het boek “Surviving and Thriving in Stepfamily Relationships: What works and what doesn’t” (Routledge, 2013). In 2017 ontving ze van de American Psychological Association’s Couple and Family Therapy Division een prijs voor haar noemenswaardige bijdrage aan de gezinstherapie.

Haar boek werd vertaald naar het Nederlands en is inbegrepen in de inschrijvingsprijs.
